A GRP flat roof, or fiberglass roof as it’s also known, is one of the most popular flat roofing solutions in the UK.GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester), a composite material formed by strengthening polyester resin with fine fibres made of glass material.
This single ply laminate has been used as a reliable means of covering and waterproofing roofs for over 50 years, although it’s popularity has soared in recent years on both commercial and domestic buildings, GRP sets the standard in flat roofing materials far surpassing traditional bitumen felt based products.
The installation of a GRP roofing system is highly regarded for its site safety, been cold applied no flame if necessary unlike green mineral felt applications. The finished product it produces is also recognised as having a lifespan that easily betters that of a felt roof, manufacturers give GRP an estimated lifespan of 50yrs plus.
GRP flat roofs begin with a layer of catalysed resin being applied to good quality, completely dry roof decking, ideally OSB3 wood. A layer of fibreglass matting is then laid on top followed by another layer of catalysed resin to complete the system. Once cured, a fire retardant top coat resin is then applied to completely weatherproof the roof and give it a more attractive finish.
Here are few examples of our GRP flat roofing, we have a lot of other roofing companies contract us in to complete their areas of GRP before they finish the pitched roofing sections so some photos may look unfinished but gives you the idea of what can be achieved with this magnificent product.
